SCOAP AWARDS

SCOAP is an 18 year old not-for-profit professional association, dedicated to exploring the management, use and impact of information and technology in the knowledge-based society. Recognized as a premier indicator of progressive achievement, the Awards are given in four categories to local organizations illustrating excellence in the integration of people, technology and the workplace, within the past year. The 2000 Awards of Excellence will be celebrated next Spring.
The four Awards categories and the information requested to support
nominations are as follows:
CATEGORY 1: Best Implementation or Innovative Use of Information Technology
This category will emphasize innovative use of information and technology in “working sites” with “hard benefits” evident in pilots,organizational plans and commitments. Innovative directions should focus on new
corporate or market advantages (e.g., use of new technologies for production,engineering, or marketing including multi-media, wireless networks, interactive learning systems, knowledge-based or AI applications, etc.). This award will recognize the state-of-the-art use of technology implementation, by analysing tangible organization performance impacts, and competitive use of information.
Nominations for Category 1 should be supported by the following information:
- a description of the business that Information Technology was intended to address;
- a description of how the project was implemented, managed and delivered; and
- an explanation of the outcomes, benefits and bottom lines impacts arising
from the implementation or initiative.
CATEGORY 2: Best Locally Developed Information Technology Products or Services
This category recognizes excellence in the state-of-the-art development of technology products or services which have significant impact on organizations and the workplace.
Nominations for Category 2 should include:
- the market need or niche that the product or service was aimed at meeting;
- the local development process and resulting product or service
description; and - competitive analysis and market positioning of the product or service.
CATEGORY 3: Best IT Initiative Resulting in Positive Social or Community Advancement
This category recognizes leadership in the development, implementation or innovative integration of information technology in the advancement of benefits that accrue to communities or society.
Nominations for Category 3 should be supported by the following information:
- a description of the community or social needs that IT was intended to
address; - a description of how the project was implemented, managed and delivered;
and - an explanation of the outcomes, benefits for the recognition of leadership
in the development, implementation or innovative integration of information
technology in the advancement of benefits that accrue to communities or
society.

CATEGORY 4: Best Knowledge Management Innovation Initiative
This award will be given to those individuals or organizations who have shown leadership in the implementation of knowledge innovation management practices over the past year. With the goal of promoting and acknowledging success in our community, the award will be given to individuals or organizations in the National Capital Area where possible.
Nominations for Category 4 should be supported by the following information:
- a description of the IT/IM leadership in the implementation of knowledge
innovation management practices over the past year; - a description of how the project was implemented, managed and delivered;
and - an explanation of the outcomes, benefits and bottom lines impacts arising
from the implementation or initiative.
